TSC 97 RED DOMINATES TO CAPTURE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Jun 08 2010 - Gina Neuhauser

TSC 97 Red captured its first State Cup Championship by dominating the field of competition, producing five shut-out victories and scoring an impressive 22 goals distributed between seven team members.
TSC’s scoring onslaught commenced in the wind-ravaged preliminary rounds with grand-scale wins over OFC White (9-0) and CVFC Red (6-0) followed up by a solid 2-0 victory over a determined N OKC OFC 97 team.
On championship weekend, blistering 90-degree temps replaced sand-blasting breezes, adding to the challenge of competition amongst Oklahoma ’s best in class. In semi-final action, TSC faced NYSA Fury Green ready to exact some retribution. Norman Fury had spoiled TSC 97 Red’s State Cup hopes in the 2009 semi-finals as well as thwarted its fifth straight OPL Championship with a late spring season tie two weeks earlier. TSC monopolized possession for the duration of the Saturday contest, converting two of several quality looks as the defense allowed Fury no goals and nary a few advances into home territory.
The Sunday finals featured a long-awaited match-up between two east-side rivals - four-time OPL Champion TSC 97 Red versus two-time and defending State Champion HFC 97 Rhein. Each suffering numerous ailments and injuries, including collective voids of starting center midfielders, both teams battled valiantly and purposefully producing fundamentally sound play. Mid first-half TSC’s forwards orchestrated a delicately slotted diagonal through-ball for a score and just before the break converted on a corner kick to go in at half-time with a 2-0 advantage. In the second half, both teams tightened the screws defensively with neither team able to generate many viable scoring opportunities. Late in the game TSC capped it off by chasing down a well-cleared ball from the backfield, capitalizing on a fast break to nail the lid and seal the championship with the 3-0 victory.
Congratulations TSC 97 Red and to Coach Troy Tokarchik for earning his second state title in May this year. Earlier this month, Tokarchik and his Bishop Kelley High School girls soccer team captured its 11th State Championship title. |
