Stay Strong #16
October 12, 2005
The following is a paraphrased note from Mike Keester, TSC parent and reflects the thoughts and emotions of the TSC Family.
Good day friends:
Sam is gone. He entered the gates of heaven on his birthday. Sam left behind a loving and caring family-Kathy, Mark, Thomas &
Jessica, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, as well as thousands of friends and more SAM SHANNON SUPPORTERS than anyone could ever imagine. He left behind all the pain and suffering that he had endured all these
days since July 23, when a bolt of lightning came down from the sky unexpectedly and changed his life, as well as ours, forever. He also left behind a legacy of courage, character, persistence, passion, "never
quit" attitude and absolute and unconditional love of life, family & friends. He is gone, but will never be forgotten. We will all miss this special kid so much because we are only human, but we must not be selfish. He has made the journey now from this life to the next, to take his rightful place with the Heavenly Father and the host of Angels and loved ones in Heaven. God has chosen Sam and summoned him home, where he is sheltered from all distress. He has truly now been delivered. Sam suffers no more, but now knows only the joy, love, happiness, wonder and absolute peace that awaits us all in the hereafter. Green fields and gentle breezes greet him. Every shot he takes now is a free kick, on the frame, upper 90, back of the net. He leaves us early in this life to start anew as a part of a bigger plan that the Almighty has for this boy.
We love Sammy and will always remember his infectious 'Sam Shannon smirk' and treasure our own special memories of him forever. He has truly affected thousands. He lit a flame that will burn forever and he renewed and rekindled the faith of us all in the Creator above. He refocused us all on family, friends and the important things in life.
His spirit will never leave us.
Thank You ALL for your generous, continuous and compassionate support of the Shannons. The outpouring of love for this family has just been unbelievable. Now we must help the Shannons, as well as ourselves, to deal with this painful loss.
The overall services are being handled by Fitgerald Funeral Home. They are at 3612 E. 91st Street South, Tulsa, Ok, and their phone is 918 291 3500. Sam will lie in state there at Fitzgerald's for visitation Thursday, Oct 13th from 10:00am-8:00pm, and the family will be there to greet visitors from 4:00pm-8:00pm. The funeral services will be at Church on the Move at 1003 North 129th East Avenue, Tulsa OK 74116 at 1:00pm on Friday, October 14th. Their phone is 918 234 5656. Following the funeral, there will be a burial service at Calvary Cemetary at 91st & Harvard.

93 and 96 Boys Show Well in Illinois
October 10, 2005 - Edwardsville, IL
The TSC 93 Boys Red and TSC 96 Boys Fire played some of the top teams in the country last weekend at the MetroUnited Classic in Illinois. This event is currently the 12th ranked tournament in the USA and the #1 tournament in the Midwest.
The 93 Boys (right) first game was a 1-1 tie against Chicago Magic 92/93 in a hard fought battle. The Magic are ranked 14th nationally. The 2nd game the 93 boys defeated St. Louis Soccer Club 93 Boys "A" team (formerly Busch) 2-1 and in their 3rd match defeated Cincinnati Classics Hammer 93 Boys Blue team 1-0. The 93 Boys Red finished their bracket play winning 2 games and 1 tie and finished with 7 points. Unfortunately, they lost out on advancing into the semi-finals due to goal differentials to the Chicago Magic. Chicago Magic went on to the Championship game and lost to the Chicago Sockers (12th Nationally) in the finals. The TSC 93 Boys Red team successfully competed against the toughest teams from Region II and were unfortunate not to advance. Next tournament for the team is at CASA in Little Rock on Nov 5th & 6th.
The TSC Fire 96 boys (below) also attended the Metro United Fall Classic this past weekend. The 96's played in the Premier Bracket and had the opportunity to play some of the best clubs in the Midwest.
In the first game, the 96 Boys played the Metro United 96 (IL). This was a close game that even though TSC was attacking most of the first half, the game was still tied 0-0 at half time before the TSC boys scored two goals to win this game 2-0.
In the 2nd game, TSC 96 came back from being down 0-1 to win 2-1 against Warren United Select (IL). The 3rd game was against Scott Gallagher (MO). The Scott Gallagher club is currently ranked 5th in the nation for their boys program. This was another close game and the score could have gone either way but this time the TSC boys came up short and lost 1 - 2. TSC had several close opportunities to tie it during the last 10 mins but just could not find the net. The Scott Gallagher team went on to win their semi final and then lost a close game in the finals.
This was the first event that the TSC 96 Fire had not managed to advance to the playoffs since January 2004. A tie would have put them through. The quality of the teams attending this event was great and it was a very good experience for all of the kids.

94 Red and 97 Storm Girls Have Successful Weekends
September 20, 2005
The TSC 94 Girls Red competed this weekend in the Gateway Shootout in St. Louis. This was their first attempt at 11 v 11 and they reached the semifinals before being knocked out by the eventual champions. Congratulations to the girls on their first full size field event. The 94 Girls Red are coached by Donivan Bradshaw.
The PDP 97 Girls Storm (pictured above) fought hard in not so ideal conditions to bring back another tournament championship from the Raytown "Tournament in the Woods" in the U9 Girls division. In the champsionship game, the girls played the Parkville Force, who was regarded as the strongest team in the KC area. The fields were a muddy mess from the rain which leveled out the play and either team probably could have won in these conditions. However, defense wins championships and it won it for our 97 Girls! Our girls really worked hard and basically had to play the whole game as the other team would sub 3 girls at a time. The game finished with a 1-0 win. At the medal ceremony the coach from the Force came to Coach Mike Parker and said, "coach I don't need to tell you this but we watched your team most of the tournament and they are a fantastic group." The 97 girls continue to excel in their development as they compete very well against out-of-state competition. Congratulations to the 94 and 97 girls teams!

Busy Weekend
August 29, 2005
For what has been a TSC Tradition for the last 14 years, it was both a busy and memorable day for TSC. Approximately 1,500 family members spent all day together eating, playing, watching coaches vs 88s, shopping, socializing, sweating, buying chances to win a trip to Vegas or AC Milan and Man United jerseys and just having Fun. While the picnic was going on at Haikey Creek, another 500 or more parents and players were joining in on the Fun at the ESC/TSC Friendlies at the MTSC Soccerplex. What made both events a little more memorable was the generosity, kindness and caring shown for the Shannon family. The raffle at the picnic raised $4,500 while the concessions at the PDP Friendlies raised $1,300!! Add to that the decision by TSC and ProTees to donate all of the profit from the Picnic logowear sales and the white "Stay Strong #16" bracelets and it is surely to add up to additional substantial amounts.
In the coaches vs 88s (boys & girls) match, the coaches were victorious again with a 15-14 win over the three teams. This was the 12th time in 14 years the coaches have defeated the senior teams. Next year it will be the 89s turn so hopefully they will be well prepared to attempt what only 2 other age groups have done since 1992.
Congratulations to the raffle winners! Vegas Trip - Marta Buchanan; AC Milan Jersey - Whitney and Michaela Brannan; Man United Jersey - Thomas Ivanoff &
Douglas Ivanoff.

Twenty teams from two states are ready to compete at the 1st of many ESC/TSC Friendly Series. The two prominent clubs in Oklahoma have partnered to bring a series of regular friendlies for players of the ESC Center of Excellence and M-TSC Premier Development Program.
"Under the philosophy that the game is the best teacher, we are pleased to begin this regular academy friendly series with these other solid clubs in the area. "In partnership with ESC, we are pleased to be able to provide a consistent vehicle for the development of our younger players. Both of our clubs are committed to excellence and we feel that these events provide yet another advantage for the benefit of our players and help prepare them for higher levels. We plan to stage these events between the two clubs before and after each season and we look forward to sending teams to ESC this November. I also want to give a special THANKS to Chris Amos for doing a great job in coordinating the event," says Jim Tindell, TSC Administrator. Schedules.

Redefining "Winner" - June 10, 2005 - Tulsa, OK
"In professional sports (which is entertainment), there is only one goal--to have the most points at the end of a contest. However, in youth sports (which is education), there is a SECOND GOAL: to produce young people who will be WINNERS IN LIFE." John Crouch (PDP Director & PCA Certified Instructor) held an introductory session with the PDP Staff last night on this and other Positive Coaching Alliance concepts. John will be holding more sessions throughout the year and he will introduce the PCA principles to all PDP parents at a PDP Informational Meeting June 30th at 7pm at the MetLife Office (51st & 129th E Ave).
Keith Eddy, TSC Director of Coaching, highly endorses the program. "Many times throughout my career, people always ask me how I became so confident. It's mainly because throughout my life I've always had someone who encouraged me and gave me positive reinforcement. In my youth years it was one of my school teachers and my mom. In my adult years it's been my wife. I'm convinced that I was successful in professional soccer because of that support as it gave me the confidence I have today. In soccer or in life, it is vital that you have confidence. I think if we can teach these young players the basics of the game and do it in a fun and positive environment, not only will we produce better soccer players, we will also hopefully produce better people. It gives me great satisfaction when players who I've coached grow up and later come back to me and let me know that I did, in fact, make a difference in someone's life," Keith Eddy.

Three Teams Win State Championships - May 31, 2005 - Edmond, OK
TSC has now produced 59 State Championships since 1992 -- more than any other club in Oklahoma during that span. Two of these teams, TSC 91 Boys and 88 Girls will join other Sub-Regional Champions/Runners-up TSC 90 Boys and TSC 90 Girls as they represent TSC and Oklahoma at the USYSA Region III Tournament in Plano, TX, June 23-28, 2005.

TSC 91 Boys captured their 3rd straight state title this past weekend by beating ESC Royals 91 4-0 in the Finals. The team's impressive performance was highlighted by not allowing a goal the entire tournament. Goalkeeper Cody Mumma recorded all shutouts. The 91's offense was also impressive scoring 16 goals. The 91 Boys are coached by Shan Kitterman who also coaches TSC 92 Boys which lost in the semi-finals to ESC Royals who eventually won the state championship in the U13 boys age group. Full Story.

TSC 94 Girls White ended their impressive season by capturing their 1st State Championship by beating NOKC United 94 2-1 in the Finals. The game was tied at the end of regulation until the 94 Girls scored in overtime to take home the title. TSC 94 Girls White are coached by Matt Blackwell who also coaches 96 Girls PDP.

The Tradition Continues - May 23, 2005 - Edmond, OK
Every year since 1992 TSC has had more teams advance in the State Cup than any other Tulsa club. That Tradition continued this past weekend with the youngest and oldest teams (and many in between) winning their brackets to advance to the Semi-finals and Finals this coming weekend.
Nine teams advanced to the finals this coming weekend. The TSC Tradition is likely to continue as the youngest teams TSC 94 Girls White (Matt Blackwell - 96 Girls PDP) and KS Arsenal 94 Boys (John Crouch - 95 Boys & 97 Boys PDP) both won their brackets and are headed straight to the Finals. The oldest teams -- TSC 88 Boys (Steve Earle) and 88 Girls (Gene Jackson), who have won multiple State Championships throughout their youth careers, also advanced.
Also advancing with outstanding performances are TSC 92 Boys (Shan Kitterman), TSC 91 Boys (Shan Kitterman), TSC 89 Boys (Keith Eddy), TSC 92 Girls (Richard Verge - 98 Girls PDP) and TSC 90 Girls (David Gordon). The 91 Boys, 89 Boys and 92 Girls are defending their State Championship titles from last year.
After playing well all year, the KS Arsenal 93 Boys (Donny Carreno - 96 Boys & 98 Boys PDP) were unlucky in a hard fought match with ESC Royals 93 and lost 1-0. KS Arsenal 93 Boys were State Champions last year and OPL champions in the Fall/Spring seasons. They will be be back next year and expect to take back the title.
TSC 90 Boys (Mark McIntosh) played outstanding in all their games but were also unlucky to not advance. However, the 90 Boys have already won the Sub-regional Championship which means they will be traveling to the Region III Tournament in Plano, TX next month along with other State and Sub-Regional Champions.
Number of teams from Tulsa clubs advancing in the State Cup:
TSC 9 - Hurricane 6 - Nationals 1 - Blitz United 1 - Thunder 0 - Highlanders 0 - Extreme 0 - Tornado 0 - WSA 0
Congratulations and GOOD LUCK to all nine teams this coming weekend!
